Straying from the source of life.

It's funny how we take water for granted.
I don't mean the overall rivers, lakes and oceans. I'm talking about the water that we use personally every day to stay alive.

We have the means to take water with us everywhere we go. Sports bottles, plastic water bottles, fancy, flashy personal water containers, and if you go hiking there's even backpacks that have a water bladder in them with a tube that you can drink from as you're walking. Got two of those. Love 'em! And we fill these things with water from readily available sources all around us. Just turn the handle, push the lever or buy it while you're at the store.
But it wasn't always this way.....you used to have to go get it yourself from a source.

Back in the ancient times, if you were fortunate enough to dig down and find good water, that became the source of life for not only your family but a lot of times the community around you.
It's a fact in life that permanent communities congregate only where there is a good water supply!
Look at most of the major cities in the world and you will see that they are located at the water's edge.
Funny that Sin city, Las Vegas, is not.....

If you take a look at the modern-day Church, way too many people see the pastor or the priest as that well from which they go to get nourishment.
Having been raised in religion, I saw how the people starved for that nourishment the rest of the week. Yes, there were a select few that realized that if they dug (in God's Word daily) their own well, they could have a continuous water source all week long!

So many people look to the church for the only watering or feeding that they get. Some are faithful church goers and get their fill every week. Some go when it's convenient to them. Others belong to the exclusive CEO club - Christmas and Easter Only.  But all get what comes secondhand from the pulpit. And lately, that water has become contaminated in some churches. The masses have never been taught to dig in God's word for the Water of Life themselves.

When Francis Chan left Azusa Pacific to go to China, one of his final messages was titled, "I am not your Moses." (it's on YouTube. Check it out!)
Basically, he was telling his students not to follow him but to follow Christ. I don't believe this is emphasized enough from most pulpits. A true disciple, in the biblical context, HAS to be a student of The Word themselves.

Jesus told us to Go Make Disciples, not churchgoers!

I encourage you that if you don't have the self-discipline to get into God's word every day for your source of Living Water, then join at least one Bible study.
Jesus said that he is, among other things, "Living Water," and the apostle John said that Jesus was the "Living Word."

A trustworthy saying is that your relationship with the written word is a direct reflection of your relationship with the Living Word.....has your Bible seen you lately?
